The company is specialized in the manufacturing of silex and disposes of two quarries.

There are two processes of calcination to obtain two different product lines.

 

Silice Cristobalite

The first quarry is located in public sea area (about 30000 T/year). The stones of blue silex, also called ceramic stones, are very pure in silica. After calcination at 1600°C of silex, an extra white cristobalite is obtained. The main properties of the cristobalite silex are the following :

  • Absolute density of 2.24 (compared to 2.65 for the raw silex)
  • Exceptional whiteness
  • Important hardness (7 Mohs)
  • Chemical inertness with respect to acids (except fluorhydric acid)
  • Very low expansion coefficient - between 300° and 1000º
  • High insulating power - Low freezing sensitiveness.
  • Low porosity

« GRENETTE » : 8 different granulemetrics from 0 to10 mm. « MINIGRAINS » granulemetrics from 250 to 3 mm. The finest product is called « FARSIL », a kind of silica flour with a granulemetric from 0 to 10 micron for the finest type and from 0 to 250 micron for the coarse type. Lights Granulats

The silex comes from an inland quarry (55000 T/year). The silex, buried during thousand of years, is less pure in silica.

There is calcination at 1000°C. After calcination, pulverization and sifting, a granulate is formed that is less white then cristobalite. It is commercialised under the name of GRANUBLANC. It has a granulemetrics from 0 à 2 mm to 8 à 10 mm, and has the following properties: anti-slip, retroreflective material and low freezing sensitiveness. It is used for the production of pavements, garden decorations, aquaria…

This product is also used for roadway application. For that application, the granublanc is sold under the name of « GRANUSIL ».

Moreover, from the calcination at 1000°C of oxidized silex a pink aggregate is obtained, that is called GRANUROSE. It is the iron oxide that gives the pink colour after the calcination process.It is manly used as a decorative element.
